Three steps from a file to text

Nothing to configure: the app picks whichever recognition method your computer can run.

STEP 01

Drop in the file

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, MP4, MOV. Video works as well — the audio track is taken from it.

STEP 02

Wait for the transcript

An hour of audio takes a few minutes. Speed depends on your graphics card: Whisper runs on your own hardware.

STEP 03

Take the text

Text with timestamps: copy it, save it, translate it into 198 languages or turn it into subtitles.

Why local matters

Online services upload your recording to their servers. A board meeting, a client interview or a doctor's dictation leaves your computer for good.

The recording stays with you

Whisper runs on your graphics card. Neither the file nor the text goes online — you can transcribe with no connection at all.

Minutes never run out

Online services give you tens of free minutes a month. Local recognition does not spend any monthly quota.

More than transcription

The same app types by voice into any window, shows live subtitles for video and translates text from a screenshot.

What it looks like

History window: transcripts listed with language and length; the open one shows a waveform and the recognised text
Finished transcripts stay in the app. Each one keeps its audio, the text is searchable, and Export saves them all at once.
Speech recognition settings with Local mode selected and the note that it works offline on the CPU or GPU
This is the switch the whole page is about: in Local mode the file is read from your disk and never leaves it.

Questions people ask

Do I need an internet connection?

Not for local recognition. The internet is only needed for cloud translation and cloud recognition on paid plans.

How much does it cost?

Transcribing on your own computer is free, with no limit on the number of files. Paid plans start at $5.99 a month, lift the per-recording length limit and add cloud recognition and larger translation quotas.

Which formats are supported?

MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG for audio, MP4 and MOV for video.

Is there a Mac or mobile version?

Yes — macOS and Android. Local GPU recognition is available in the desktop version.
